But when you’re out celebrating Independence Day this year, you should never take liberties with safety.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, U.S. fire departments respond to an average of approximately 8,800 fires involving grilling equipment each year, causing injury, deaths and property loss.

Here are some tips for safely enjoying outdoor cooking and heating appliances.

Go with gas. Where natural gas is available, gas grills are ideal for gourmet grilling. They burn clean and give you complete control of the flame. They’re also convenient and safe when used properly. Gas-fired outdoor fireplaces and fire pits offer similar features and convenience. Continue reading
